Guided, verified inspection.

How Spatial PI is approaching manufacturing inspection — locating each inspection point, supporting the visual check, keeping human judgment in the loop, and connecting the evidence to the record.

Early-stage product · Capabilities and compatibility are still being validated

Overview

Why inspection matters in manufacturing.

Inspection is a critical part of manufacturing quality control. Teams examine materials, components, processes, and finished products before, during, and after production to confirm that the work follows defined requirements.

Spatial PI is exploring how approved instructions, spatial context, observations, and evidence can stay connected throughout that process.

End-of-line inspection

Bring guidance and evidence into the same view.

AI-assisted visual inspection and AR guidance can help teams focus each check and capture its result. Spatial PI is evaluating these patterns with human review and workflow-specific validation.

Inspection challenges

Where manual processes create friction.

01

Slow manual inspection cycles

Moving between the physical object and paper or 2D references adds friction when teams need to check parts, wiring, welds, and assembly details.

02

Higher exposure to missed details

Repetition, fatigue, and incomplete reference material can make it harder to sustain careful, consistent checks throughout a shift.

03

Disconnected inspection records

Recording results separately adds work and can leave images, notes, status, and the procedure scattered across different systems.

Inspection concepts adapted from authorized PTC reference material. No partnership, customer relationship, or endorsement is implied.

Benefits

What guided inspection could improve.

These are intended outcomes to evaluate with early teams, not published performance claims. Every automated behavior must be validated for its real operating environment.

01

Assessment and decision support

Evaluation areas for camera-assisted inspection and governed AI support.

More focused inspection cycles

Bring the right check into view without repeatedly searching separate reference material.

Recognize incorrect conditions

Explore support for missing or incorrectly positioned parts, subject to workflow-specific validation.

Learn from reviewed feedback

Use governed technician feedback to evaluate future decision support without replacing accountable review.

02

Visual guidance at the point of work

Contextual cues can reduce the distance between the instruction and the object.

Clearer status cues

Show what has been checked, what needs attention, and where human confirmation is still required.

Guide frontline teams

Present approved steps near the inspection point and keep progress in the intended sequence.

Support varied failure checks

Reduce repeated switching between real components and separate 2D manuals across different checks.

03

Inspection records connected to the work

Keep evidence and review context alongside the procedure that produced them.

Document the process

Capture observations and image evidence as part of the guided inspection flow.

One connected workflow

Link guidance, technician input, and the completed record instead of duplicating work between tools.

Review change over time

Prepare structured inspection history for future analysis once the relevant data and controls are validated.

How it works

Locate. Perform. Validate. Document.

A complete inspection loop keeps guidance, technician judgment, and the resulting record connected. It is the inspection-specific form of the Navigate, Check, Teach, Perform, Verify loop the Spatial PI app is built around.

Step 01

Locate the inspection point

Bring the relevant procedure and inspection location into view so the technician knows where the check belongs and what requires attention.

Inspection questions

The clear version.

01What are the three common types of manufacturing inspection?

Quality inspection checks products or materials against defined requirements before, during, or after production. Process inspection checks whether each part of the manufacturing process is followed as intended. Equipment inspection checks whether machinery remains safe, serviceable, and ready for operation.

02How could Spatial PI support inspection authors?

Spatial PI is exploring an authoring flow for approved procedures, reference media, inspection points, and evidence requirements. Automated checks, CAD handling, dashboards, and integrations will be described only after they are implemented and validated.

03How might AR support frontline inspectors?

AR can place visual navigation, component context, reference media, and status cues closer to the object being inspected. Spatial PI intends to keep human judgment and accountable approval visible wherever automated assistance is introduced.

04What results should an inspection pilot measure?

A team may choose to measure inspection completeness, procedure consistency, training time, rework, reporting effort, or throughput against its own baseline. Spatial PI does not currently publish customer-performance results.

05Is the inspection workflow available today?

Not generally. Spatial PI is in product development and is speaking with a limited number of industrial teams willing to help validate real inspection problems. Device support, integrations, and automated assessment are still being validated.
